Alexandria is an old town with deep roots, but it’s not afraid of a little progress. The Waterfront has been masterfully expanded and is finally ready to open in March. Alexandria has scores of boutiques, breweries, wineries, handcrafting stores, restaurants and so much more. Old Town’s King Street is an official Historic District and has fed some of the most notable people ever to pass through Washington. It’s a walkable mile that covers the gamut from comfort food to chef-specialty independents to irresistible deserts. In the evenings, the aroma of authentic southern Barbecue fills the air from Myron Mixon’s Pitmaster BBQ, Smoking Kow BBQ, and other artisan rib joints.
So much to do, so little time! There are night tours from Pedego Alexandria Electric Bikes, one to Mount Vernon that includes admission to the estate, the cherry blossom tour, and the breathtaking monuments tour.
