Alexandria is a city both rich in history and full of life. Alexandria is connected to Washington, Jefferson, Madison, and Monroe and to educators, entertainers, and athletes such as Booker T. Washington, Ella Fitzgerald, Pearl Bailey, and Moses Malone. As of the end of 2018, the estimated population in Alexandria is about 150,000 people. In the last 8 years, Alexandria has experienced about a 1% annual growth rate. Well over half of Alexandria’s adults are college educated, and residents in 68% of Alexandria’s communities earn over $130,000 per year. Alexandria is a high-earning, well-educated city – and has been for nearly 200 years.

Real estate in Alexandria tends to follow the national trends. With a solid school system, thriving economy, and well-developed infrastructure, a home in Alexandria is no doubt an excellent investment. In 2019, prices are ranging from about $1.2 Million on the high end to about $300,000 on the lower end, with a regular sized home (3 bedrooms, 1-2 baths) costing about $500,000.

Alexandria is an old town with deep roots, but it’s not afraid of a little progress. The Waterfront has been masterfully expanded and is finally ready to open in March. It will connect the retail corridor in Old Town directly to the water. Waterfront Park’s careful planning has made it perfect for recreation but also for special events. The tall ship Providence will arrive at the Waterfront this summer as a permanent addition to all the other attractions.

Alexandria has scores of boutiques, breweries, wineries, handcrafting stores, restaurants and so much more. Old Town’s King Street is an official Historic District and has fed some of the most notable people ever to pass through Washington. It’s a walkable mile that covers the gamut from comfort food to chef-specialty independents to irresistible deserts.  In the evenings, the aroma of authentic southern Barbecue fills the air from Myron Mixon’s Pitmaster BBQ, Smoking Kow BBQ, and other artisan rib joints.
